Mallie

I was just switching channels when I came across a channel 'Loksabha'. I lingered there for a moment as a tiny girl caught my attention. Some regional movie was being telecasted, probably in Malayalam, but thankfully with English subtitles. This movie revolves around a small village girl Mallie and her small 'adventures' ,at the backdrop of a jungle.Mallie is cute innocent girl clad in a tiny white sari and running around in the forest. She seems to know all the laws of forest as she is grown there. She befriends with forest officer's daughter who is mute. Mallie spends most of her time in the forest with trees, birds,animals and is friendly with a post man who brings her letters from the town. She sends messages to her father who is in town with this old post man. She has her granny staying in forest who consoles her and fills her heart with hope.

This entire movie moves around Mallie and her innocent world and her perspective from which she perceives the world. Her innocent heart has still not been infected with the worldly pollution of greed,violence,selfishness,cruelty and so on. In one of the touching scenes she happens to witness the killing of a deer in the forest. She does everything possible to save that animal. all her efforts are worth seeing. it really takes one to the inner child which each one of us has inside us. This 'child' being symbolic of the innocence,purity of heart and selflessness in a person.

She witnesses another killing and the weapon being washed in the river bed. In order to purify that lake she collects tiny dewdrops in the twilight and immerse them in the lake. this was another beautiful scene that really touched my heart.

Another sub plot was her friendship with the mute girl. The scene where she gifts a tiny necklace with a precious blue stone to her friend stays longer in your heart as it depicts her efforts to make her friend Happy ..

This movie falls in the gener of 'Children's movie' though has much more intense and deeper meaning to it and have an awesome cinematography of Santosh Sivan one of the finest cinematographer.

There is a thin line between being good and bad,between being selfish and selfless,being cruel and compassionate. Mallie represents the goodness in human heart which at times get overshadowed by greed,need for power, violence and all such vices. Her contribution to create order in the world around her are genuine and pure. She symbolizes all the tiny things which are done with a good intentions can contribute greatly to the big picture of the universe and can make this place a better inhabitat for us all.

To describe the movie in two words 'Picturesque' and 'Heart warming'...:-)

Mallie is the Metaphor for the Buddha nature in us ....which is attainable.
